Meta Platforms Secures Legal Victory Against NSO Group in Spyware Case
A U.S. federal judge has ordered NSO Group to cease attempts to access Meta Platforms' WhatsApp, marking the conclusion of a six-year legal battle. The ruling reduces NSO's damages from $167 million to $4 million but delivers a decisive win for Meta. NSO warned the decision jeopardizes its Pegasus spyware business, which relies on exploiting software platforms.
WhatsApp head Will Cathcart hailed the judgment as a permanent safeguard for users. Meta shares edged up 0.68% to $716.92 following the verdict. Separately, NSO confirmed a U.S. investor group led by Hollywood producer Robert Simonds acquired a controlling stake, though financial terms remain undisclosed.
